Celebration of SAORI Exhibition in June!

The Celebration of SAORI Exhibition will bring together 35 SAORI artists from right across Australia in a colourful celebration of individual creative expression. Held in the charming historic township of Clunes in Central Victoria, the exhibition will be curated by Prue Simmons from Dyeing To Weave.

Part of the Dyeing To Weave SAORI program, the students taking part in the exhibition will showcase their incredible array of woven work, with over 100 pieces on display!

Using easy meditative movement and mindfulness philosophies, SAORI weaving focuses on colour, texture and experimentation, rather than traditional pattern style weaving. Through this connection between meditative flow and textile creation, the weaver can truly express themselves through their weaving and produce beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces of cloth that can be turned into garments, wall hangings or an array of woven items. Every woven item captures a moment in time and tells a story. Lots of beautiful pieces will be on display and for sale.

All are welcome to attend the Launch Party in the Esmond Gallery at The Warehouse in Clunes on Saturday 8th June at 2pm and the exhibition will run until Sunday 23rd June, open every day from 10am – 4pm, except Tuesdays. On weekends throughout the exhibition, there will be lots of opportunities to learn more about this unique style of weaving, with free SAORI weaving demonstrations and creativity talks taking place during the event as well as dedicated SAORI weaving workshops so that you too can try your hand at this easy and enjoyable style of Japanese meditative craft.
